TAYLOR YVONNE
Artist Statement
I create art that captures the ethos of human emotion. Memory and experience are the focal point of my work, as I seek ways to express the subtleties in our lives. Using colors, textures, and lines as symbols, I focus on how we use art to interpret our emotions through visuals, and which elements we use to associate certain emotions and experiences. I found monoprinting to be one of the best methods for me to convey things that we, as humans, can have a hard time visualizing or explaining to others. Experiences such as nostalgia, sentimentality, womanhood, identity, and mental health. What emotions would we feel by just experiencing an image? This is the kind of question I ask as I make my work. The insinuation of these energies is imperative in my body of work, and abstractionism is essential in relaying these ideas.
Artist Bio
Taylor Yvonne has been creating art for 18 years. Her body of work is a collection of translating emotion, memory, and experiences in a visual form. She began drawing and painting at an early age and continued to practice and refine her skills throughout her early education and college. In 2022, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Music Performance on violin at Agnes Scott College. During her time in university, she explored multiple printmaking techniques and focused on creating monotypes. Along with printmaking, she has also extensively studied acrylic painting, watercolor painting, charcoal and graphite drawing, as well as book arts. For the majority of her art career, she created representational images, still lifes, and portraits, however, she began working abstractly in 2021, and has been working non-representationally ever since. She aims to capture the subtleties of life experiences and existence.
